Quest for health has been a basic attempt of mankind through the ages. Several medical systems have been in the process of ensuring better health for the society. Ayurveda stands apart from all the other systems owing to its unique holistic approach.

Ayurveda speaks of preventive as well as curative medicines in the same volume. There has been general awareness among the people about this science leading people to Ayurveda. This calls for a much greater responsibility of academic institutions and practitioners catering to the increased demands from the society.

Ayurveda speaks of preventive as well as curative medicines in the same volume. There has been general awareness among the people about this science leading people to Ayurveda. This calls for a much greater responsibility of academic institutions and practitioners catering to the increased demands from the society.

In our institution, we are propelled by a continous urge to improve in all aspects and contribute better Ayurveda doctors to the society. The results of our effort further motivates us to contribute the best to the society. I take this opportunity to appeal to the youngsters to take up this as a career opportunity to learn, practice and propogate the science with greater enthusiasm and interest.

The prime concern of education is to evolve the good, the true and the divine in man so as to establish a moral life in the world. It should essentially make a man pious, perfect and truthful. The welfare of humanity lies neither in scientific or technological advancements nor in acquisition of material comforts. The main function of education is to enrich the character. What we need today more than anything else is moral leadership founded on courage, intellectual integrity and a sense of values.

Since education is a powerful instrument of social change and human progress, it is also a powerful tool to cultivate values in an individual. Therefore we feel that it is our moral obligation towards the society to impart learning and cultivation of values through education. In order to achieve the aforementioned goal, we have inculcated the following practices:

  • Transparent admission process for the courses runs by the Institute:

All the admissions done in our institute are done on the merit’s basis and all the updates regarding the admission process can be seen on the website of DMER.

  • Emphasis on quality education and good academic atmosphere:

The Institute has taken several measures, such as Grooming Leadership Skills, Mentor-Mentee Program, Continuous Internal Evaluation etc in order to make sure that a student achieves overall personal development which eventually helps the student in getting a better academic performance.

  • Recognition of meritorious students through Awards:
Every year during the annual fest, the Institute awards the meritorious toppers of from each class in all the exams of the previous session. This promotes a feeling of good will amongst the students.

  • Harmonious student teacher relationship:
There is a very peaceful and friendly bond between the students and their teachers. The students respect their teachers, who spend their time in order to bring out overall improvement of the students and all the measures taken by the students in order to express their to the teachers is also acknowledged by the teachers.

  • Smart e-library for better learning and good preparation:
The library of our Institute has internet facility to access any educational website. In case all the desktops are busy, the provision of Wi-Fi is also provided so that the students can surf and download the material into their own systems so that it can be accessed anywhere.

  • Conducive and secured environment in the campus, it being residential campus:
The campus has both girls’ as well as boys’ hostel within the campus. So the security of the students and the staff of the hospital is utmost priority of the management and henceforth the institute has been provided with round the clock security and CCTV surveillance in the hostels along with the college and hospital buildings.

There are multiple issues that are faced by the institute and their resolution is taken at utmost priority. Multiple issues at various levels arise that lead to interruption in the proper functioning of the institution and for this purpose, multiple committees such as Grievance Committee, Internal Assessment Evaluation Committee etc have been formed in order to resolve all the problems and then make sure that the functioning of the Institute gets back to normal where a healthy environment for the learning of the students can prosper.

Institutional Values & Best Practises

सूक्ष्मस्वच्छातिह्र्द्यांशुकपरिविलसन मौलिमम्भोजनेत्रम॥
वन्दे धन्वन्तरिं तं निखिल गदवन प्रौढदावाग्निलीलम॥

Just like one starts their prayers by remembering the God Ganesh, likewise in Ayurveda before starting our day we pray to God Dhanvantari. Related to any work of Ayurveda, whether it may be the beginning of seminar or class, we pray to God Dhanvantari. This way of praising God helps us to increase our self-confidence & concentration. By recalling Dhanvantari one can increase their will power, concentration, and make mind fresh and clam. Keeping all these benefits of Dhanvantari Prayer in mind, we cite the Prayer before beginning of any work everyday.

Our Vision of Participative Management

Participative Management refers to as an open form of management where staff is actively involved in management’s decision making process. The concept is applied by those who understand the importance of human intellect and seek a strong relationship with their staff. They understand that the teachers along with the non-teaching as well as hospital staff are the facilitators who deal directly with the students or patients and achieve the favourable outcomes. To enhance the quality of work environment, this form of management has been adopted by us. We welcome the innovative ideas, concepts and thoughts from the staff and involve them in decision making process.

The idea behind staff involvement in decision making is absolutely straight. Open and honest communication always produces good results both for management as well as workers. Freedom and transparency in management’s operations take it to the next level and strengthens the basis of the organization.

Participative management in itself does not ensure success and isn’t seen as tool to create magic within no time. We believe that there is certain ground preparation required before we decided to implement this management style.

The following things form the ground that are a must to be followed in order to make participative management a successful idea:

  • Clearly Defined Objectives:Each party to decision making called as the participants namely the management and the staff must have clearly defined objectives. Operationally there should be no clash between the objectives.

  • Clear Communication:There should be clear and timely communication between the management and the staff. This helps in building trust between everyone. Staff also gains a sense of responsibility increasing their stake in their work and in the organization as a whole.

  • Choosing the Representative:It is important for the staff to choose their representative from among themselves and one who is acquainted to all. This is important for two reasons. First, the person is able to better understand the problems of his colleagues and report the same to the management. Second, the management is keener to talk and listen from a person who works within the organization.

  • Training the Staff:Training and awareness regarding the usefulness of participative management is required to make it more effective. Further training is required to ensure that every person at every level knows his what contribution he/she has to make

  • Confidence:Both parties workers and the management need a trust to develop between the two. Participation should not be perceived as intimidation to the position of any. If workers think that their status will be adversely affected, they refuse to participate. Similarly, if managers suspect that they will lose their authority, they will decline to participate.

  • Increasing Staff Participation:Staff participation needs to be increased at each level in order to encourage them to contribute meaningfully. Further, their suggestions and recommendations need to be treated with dignity and respect. Nothing can be more motivating than seeing your recommendation being put to practice.

  • Strict Action against those Erring:Since participative management requires structural and cultural change which takes time, there is resistance to change offered by the workers especially those who perceive it as a threat to their status and authority within the organization. If allowed to take shape a natural speed, it will take time to show results. Therefore, some legislative action is required against the erring employees.

  • Ensuring ROI:Participation should not be at the cost of the values of the organization. It has to be carefully planned; employees should devote a certain time for participation and the rest upon their own specific area of work.

Participative management may be a solution for each and every type of organization. It is a big challenge in a big organization like ours i.e. the ones with big employee size. The implementation  needs to be carefully planned and implemented gradually.

Interactive & Innovative Teaching

Education is a light that shows the mankind the right direction to surge. The purpose of education is not just making a student literate but adds rationale thinking, knowledgeability and self-sufficiency. When there is a willingness to change, there is hope for progress in any field. Creativity can be developed and innovation benefits both students and teachers.

In the pre-technology era, the teacher used to be the sender or the source, the educational material used to be the information or message, and the student used to be the receiver of the information. In terms of the delivery medium, the educator delivered the message via the “chalk-and- talk” method. But now that the technology has advanced to such an extent and everything is being upgraded, it is time to bring in some modifications in the traditional methods of teaching too.

I hear and I forget. I see and I believe. I do and I understand.

– Confucius

The students aren’t just passive receivers in our classrooms as the College firmly believes in what the great Chinese teacher Confucius preached long back. Multiple methods are used to promote the involvement of the students in the learning process such as shlok recitation competition, model making competitions, debates, group discussions, quiz competitions, case presentations, videos related to various topics etc. By using such methods and by incorporating digital media elements, the students are able to learn better since they use multiple sensory modalities, which would make them more motivated to pay more attention to the information presented and retain the information better. The teachers not only interactively teach students using such methods, but also they increase their involvement along with the increasing the zeal and enthusiasm by introducing a simple sense of competition and all this is done by a little innovative method of teaching. The core objective of teaching is passing on the information or knowledge to the minds of the students. Any method using computers or modifying the existing conventional chalk-talk method are innovative if they ultimately serve the attainment of core objective of teaching.

Implementing Continuous Internal Evaluation

One of the major problems that the students are facing today is the fear of examination. The students’ fear of failing the final exam at the end of any session has made them unknowingly move towards the motto of passing examinations, instead of it being to acquire as much knowledge as possible. Examinations tend to dominate today’s education system. Also since the students’ sole motto is being shifted towards passing the final examination, the results no longer remain a reliable measure of student’s performance. Also due to such pressures of passing the final examinations, the students have been increasingly succumbing to the usage of unfair means in order to get better results.

To overcome this scenario, our Institution has implemented the system of Continuous Internal Evaluation. As the name suggests, the evaluation of a student is done internally throughout the session by the teacher. A student is de-linked from his academic excellence and their performance is evaluated over a due course of time using various activities like mentor-mentee scheme, shlok recitation competitions, case presentations, diagram practise, diagram explanation etc. in this method, the essential abilities like drive and capacity to hard work, leadership & team-work, motivation etc are taken into account while assessing a student. This not only helps the overall development of an academically sound student but also boosts the morale and confidence of a slow learner giving by them opportunities throughout the session to improve.

For the success of a continuous internal evaluation system, the most important prerequisite is the mutual trust between the teacher, the student and the system itself. The continuous evaluation provides more opportunities to the teacher to get feedback as to the progress of his students and his own performance and apply mid-course correction, if necessary. The varied nature of these evaluation instruments does provide opportunities to judge different aspects of a student’s understanding of the subject. To strengthen this interplay between the teacher, the student and the subject, a healthy practice of returning the answer books to the students has been introduced so that they can get necessary feedback on their performance from the teacher in a diagnostic manner. Also the students tend to focus on their development and hence as a result, the usage of malpractices reduces substantially.

Special Attention on Slow Learners

Our College pays attention to the academic performance of all our students and keeps it in mind that a student improves his academic performance along with due passage of time. For this purpose, all the students are categorised as slow learners, medium-paced learners and advanced learners not just on the basis of their academic performance but also on various facts such as difficulties faced in understanding the subjects, various issues faced due to change in medium of language of teaching etc. All such issues along with other difficulties faced by them are taken into account while creating the list. All these lists are kept strictly confidential as disclosing such details may adversely impact the morale of the students and may have a degrading impact on this confidence and their performance. All the teachers are internally communicated about the list and they, as per their comfort and handling powers, try to guide all the students as per their categorisation so that it helps them improve. All the teachers are regularly informed about the changes in the list and also they are requested to be frequently in touch with the mentors of all the students so that they can more clearly understand what the student is going through and what difficulties that student is facing as it is quite possible that a student, lacking in some field may it be confidence or academic excellence or any similar quality, may hesitate to open up or fluently describe all his problems. The main motto behind this is to help the students improve not just in their academic performance but also to make sure that this exercise has a positive impact so that there is a substantial overall improvement in the student.

Grooming Tomorrow's Leaders

Today’s students are going to be tomorrow’s leaders. So, in our institution, we have taken it up as a moral obligation to groom the leadership skills of the tomorrow’s leaders.

The first step of this process is to help the student recognize their stream of interest as one can’t be a successful leader if he/she doesn’t actually like what they are doing or what they are representing or who they are leading. As soon as the students realise what they want to do, they are asked to apply for that designation. If there are several candidates for the same designation then an interview is conducted by the teachers in order to select the best possible candidate. By this method, the head of the committee, be it sports or cultural, is elected and then this candidate is allowed to create his own council, under the guidance of the teaching staff.

The Head, along with the members of his Council, are given all the responsibilities of their event. Their work is continuously guided and looked after by the teachers. All the activities, right from planning various events to receiving, felicitation & departure of the guests, from Inaugural event to Felicitation ceremony, is looked after by these committees. This process not just improves their managerial experiences but also teaches them how to react and perform under various critical situations.

Various events that are conducted by the College on various days such as National Yoga Day, Swacchhata Abhiyaan Rally, NSS camps etc by conducting rally or street plays or quiz competition etc, as per the guidelines of the University, are also delegated to such candidates who are interested in  taking up the responsibility.

Not just at the college level, the Institute motivates the students to participate in various district, state & national level events so that the students get the exposure to the world outside the college, that can help them in substantially boosting their confidence.
